No sooner had we convinced ourselves that we could justify the expense of a new 3D enabled TV than LG comes along and announces the introduction of a 15in OLED TV.

Not so long ago we all thought that OLED technology was destined to replace LCD and Plasma and in quite a short space of time. The big manufacturers were announcing planned large screen OLED TV’s seemingly every other day, but then things went quiet.

The recession and greater than expected production costs meant that OLED TVs were largely put on hold and our attention was soon diverted with the introduction of LED and 3D TVs.

Yes, we have to remember that LG’s OLED TV is only 15in and will retail for around £2000 pounds, but there is a 22in version planned for pre Christmas and it throws up a dilemma in that the OLED bandwagon has started up again. Judging by the only other consumer OLED TV to date, Sony’s XEL-1, the technology offers a far superior viewing experience.
